All my workshops are aimed at people who can already play, i.e. they are not suitable for absolute beginners. I always expect to get mixed ability from the mildly able to the proficient, and I do try and accommodate everybody during the class. Welsh music as interpreted in our tradition is not really suitable for wire-strung harps, and preferably not the humungous modern orchestral pedal types either. All my teaching is done by ear, with copies provided at the end. Students are permitted to record the class with all participants’ consent. All music in the class is geared towards single-strung harps.

During the three workshops we will explore:
- BASIC WELSH HARPING
Get to grips with the basic Welsh interpretation, chords, vamping, and some simple dance melodies and simple chordal variations. Easier than you might think once you get the hang of it, and great fun to boot! Particularly suitable for those who have never done Robin’s classes before.
- WELSH ‘THEME AND VARIATIONS’
This class will look at the way melodies are interpreted in the Welsh tradition, and how you can develop possible ‘variations’ on the basic arrangement in typical Welsh harp style.
- ‘CAMBRIAN MINSTRELSY’ – the Legacy of the Welsh Gypsy Harpists
2016 saw the 200th anniversary of the birth of John Roberts ‘Telynor Cymru’, the great- grandfather of Eldra Jarman, the last surviving Welsh Gypsy harpist, who passed the Gypsy repertoire and style on to Robin. As she told him, “You’ve learned the notes. Now you must learn the music...”
