MERLYNNA JOHNSON studied piano and voice from a young age but it was not until her early forties that she suddenly knew she simply had to play a harp (Welsh ancestry?) She studied with Susan Allen in Leicester where she was gradually introduced to the wonderful world of harp 'technique'. She studied education, languages and music in Sheffield and taught for many years in both state and private schools. Alongside the teaching, she has played celtic harp both at home and in Spain - in restaurants, at weddings and events. She has been able to enjoy many wonderful venues including the Chalice Well at Glastonbury at full moon.
Merlynna came back to the Island in 2010. Since then, she has continued to play at many Island functions and in different venues on regular occasions. Merlynna has also been able to purchase an antique double action pedal harp and, in her sixties, to learn how to add pedals to finger technique. (It is never too late!) She is very happy to set both children and adults off on their harp career and have success with Trinity exams, if required. |
AUDREY CAMERON FINNEMORE
Audrey started playing the harp at the age of 14 with Mrs Anne Hughes-Chamberlain. She was later accepted at The Royal College of Music to study with Marisa Robles. She now plays at many functions across the south of England. Last year she was invited to play at an English garden in Japan giving 57 mini concerts in 3 and a half weeks! |
