NATIONAL YOUTH HARP ORCHESTRA OF GREAT BRITAI

Unique in Europe, the NYHO has forty of the most talented harpists from across the UK. The orchestra regularly performs at prestigious events and concert venues across the UK including The Barbican, St John’s, Smith Square, Cadogan Hall and at The World Harp Congress in Cardiff. In 2024 they were delighted to be featured at the inaugural Tattoo Cymru in Wrexham.
The NYHO has also an outreach programme taking our players out into the community, particularly care homes and hospitals to play for patients. It also has a generous bursary scheme, supporting young players that need financial support as well as a new Graduate bursary scheme, supporting NYHO members in their further education.
The orchestra has undertaken many tours to Europe including Belgium, France, Portugal, Spain, Germany, The Netherlands, Hungary, Italy, Ireland and The Channel Islands, as well as further afield to the USA. In Washington DC they were privileged to play for President and Secretary of State Clinton at a reception at the British Embassy.

LUISA CORDELL
Luisa directs The National Youth Harp Orchestra of Great Britain which she established in 2002. She enjoys fostering a positive harp community and encouraging youth harpists to fulfil their personal potential in a collaborative and supportive environment. This has nurtured many harpists which have gone on to gain Conservatoire places, leading orchestral chairs and most recently finalists in the BBC young musician. NYHO recordings have been aired on BBC Radio 3 and classic FM and the orchestra has undertaken 18 international concert tours. Most importantly, it is a pathway treasured by many which has heightened their love of the harp for a lifetime. Luisa founded the NYHO Charitable Trust to commission new harp orchestra repertoire, bursary schemes to support young harpists and most recently, an undergraduate bursary scheme. Luisa recently launched the popular adult Pilgrim Harp Ensemble, which is a joyful shared space for adults wishing to play together and meet like minded people.
